International Women’s Day (IWD) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.
Perhaps in some parts of the world women as a gender have achieved many successes yet I feel there is a lot of room for improvement, even in developed nations.
The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is #Balanceforbetter. In the words of the organizers of International Women’s Day, “A balanced world is a better world”. They tell us that in order to achieve a gender-balanced world we must celebrate women’s achievement, raise awareness against bias and take action for equality.
A couple of weeks ago an opportunity presented itself to me and upon hearing about it I knew this was something I wanted to be part of. It is my way of celebrating women’s achievements, raising awareness against bias, and taking action for equality. It is my call to action.
I am now a founding member of a women’s giving circle called Project W. Project W harnesses the power of collective giving to address the needs of women in Delaware County, PA. We will award grants to charitable organizations supporting women in our own community in the areas of Health/Human Services, Education, and Family. In joining Project W I have the opportunity to work with an incredible group of women while sharing the mission of enhancing and improving the quality of life for women in Delaware County.
I invite you to read more about Project W.
